Covenant Nursery School Teachers and Staff

The current staff of Covenant Nursery School is composed of many talented, nurturing, and dedicated individuals. Several are parents of former Covenant students who have now returned to help educate the next wave of Covenant children. Combined, the staff has over 75 years of experience in
Early Childhood Education!

Linda has been teaching at Covenant Nursery School for the past17 years. She will be co-teaching in the Turtle Stars class with Jackie Jung. Linda has over 25 years of pre-school and early childhood experience – she founded and continues to run the Book Buddies summer program which is now in it's 11th year. Her background includes extensive Early Childhood Education coursework at Oakton Community College. Linda is passionate about working with young children and their families and is rewarded by helping them with the developmental milestones that accompany the preschool years. Linda is married and treasures time spent with her five children and three grandchildren. She is proud to say that her children are all graduates of Covenant Nursery School.
Jackie J. is beginning her second year as a lead teacher in the Turtle Stars class. In addition to her time spent here at Covenant, Jackie also has a great deal of outside experience working with children of all ages and is looking forward to meeting many new families. She has a bachelor’s degree in Art from DePaul University and a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. She is excited to bring her vast experience with art and children to our program. In her spare time, Jackie enjoys hanging out with her beloved dog, Lucy, and is an avid world traveler!
Allison has been teaching a multi-age preschool class here at Covenant for five years now. As a lead teacher in the Turtle Champs multi-age classroom again this year, she has been excited to bring new ideas and experiences to the children in her class. Allison also has an extensive background in music as a licensed Kindermusik instructor and will be leading our wonderful music enrichment, Turtle Tunes. Allison has over fourteen years of experience teaching pre-school children and has a Masters degree in Music. She, again this year, had the good fortune to travel extensively this summer, this time concentrating in Europe.
Sonja is beginning her second year as a lead teacher in the Turtle Champs classroom, and her fourth year here at Covenant (she spent two years with the Young Three’s and Turtle Two’s class). With two young boys of her own, Sonja has a great deal of practical experience in group management and early childhood development! Sonja also has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and has completed about half of the course work toward a Masters degree in Education.
Martha has taught the Young Three’s and Turtle Two’s classes for the past five years. Beginning this year, she will be a lead teacher in the Young Three’s class but will also be taking on and helping to develop a new position at Covenant: Family Support Coordinator. In this new role, Martha will be offering extensive support to families in the challenging role all families have of raising young children in the society we all live in. Martha has a long history with Covenant -- both of her two children graduated from Covenant several years ago during which time Martha served as Covenant’s Board President! She has a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s History from the College of Wooster.
Elizabeth has been teaching Covenant’s Turtle Two’s and Young Three’s classes for four years now. As is becoming a familiar story, this does not adequately reflect the nature of her experience with Covenant either. Elizabeth has three children who also graduated from Covenant during which time she, too, served as Board President and helped the school achieve its NAEYC accreditation for the first time – a huge undertaking! Elizabeth has a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Beloit College and over ten years of experience teaching young children.
Michelle is beginning her first year as a lead teacher in the Turtle Two’s classroom. Similar to many of our other staff members, Michelle has had two children come through Covenant’s preschool program and during that time was a very active member of Covenant’s Board of Directors. As the mother of two boys, Michelle has some of the best training possible! She also has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from DePaul University with a strong emphasis in Art education.
Jackie D. is beginning her fourth year as a teacher aide in the Young Three’s and Turtle Two’s classes here at Covenant Nursery School. In addition to her many years of experience with us, Jackie is a parent of four children -- she naturally brings a wealth of practical experience and knowledge to the program! Jackie has over seven years of experience in Early Childhood Education.
Tina has been the Executive Director of Covenant Nursery School for the last five years. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northwestern University and a Masters of Education, specializing in Early Childhood Education, from the Erikson Institute (a graduate school specializing in child development) here in Chicago. Prior to having her own children and taking a couple years off, she was the Assistant Director at a child care center in Evanston. She is married and has two children, Will and Sophie, who both attended Covenant and are now in elementary school. She is looking forward to getting to know all of you better and to helping Covenant Nursery School provide the best experience for your child and family!
