Family Events

Note: Due to Covid-19 during the 2021-2022, many of our events have turned virtual. Below is a snapshot of our Events for when it is safe to gather. Though our online connection is strong, we are excited to get back to
in-person family gatherings

Covenant places a priority on creating a supportive and nurturing environment not only for the children but also for families. Here are a few of the activities that are planned for our Covenant Community:

Parent Coffees
Drop off the kids in class and enjoy a cup of joe and maybe a doughnut hole or two with other parents and caregivers. Happens the first week of class (Slow Start Week) and regularly throughout the year.

Family Fun Days
Come and join other Covenant families for pizza, play time, and fun with your friends. Organized by the Assistant Director and a Room Parent and held at lunch time from 11:45-1:00 on different days during the week. Three days will be held during the school year. A fee of $5 per person is charged to cover the cost of food provided.

Party on the Playscape
Come celebrate the start of school and the wonderful Fall weather with other Covenant families! Nature activities, fun games, crafts, food and drinks, and lots of laughing. Lunch is provided for all.

Art Show/Open House for Prospective and Current Families
Bring the family to come check out your child’s classroom and see our gallery of children’s amazing artwork from the year. We will have refreshments and some singing entertainment. Prospective Families are welcome to this family event!

Turtle FunRaiser Moving our Spring fundraiser outdoors proved to be a big success this past year! Join us for a firepit, bags tournament, a food truck, raffles, auction items and some great company. This event will be adults only.

Spring Fling
Our annual spring concert performed by all Covenant classes! Children are able to show family and friends some of the songs they learned during the school year. As part of the show, we'll have a brief bridging ceremony where children moving on to Kindergarten will walk over our bridge to represent their transition from Preschool to Kindergarten. It's a fun-filled afternoon for the entire family! It's also a time of recognition for all of our amazing staff.

YEA (Young Evanston Artists)
This popular Evanston festival takes place on a Saturday in early May and celebrates all the young artists of Evanston! Over 40 public, private and parochial schools, pre-school through high school, participate in the YEA! Festival in Raymond Park. It's a free event that Covenant is proud to participate in every year.

Evanston 4th of July Parade
All current and alumni families are invited to walk in this fun neighborhood parade down Central Street! It's a wonderful afternoon of showing the greater Evanston community all of our Covenant school spirit (and you get to wear cool turtle hats too)!

CNS Family Nature Outings

Twice a year on a Saturday, a CNS staff member organizes an outing for the whole family at an area nature park, preserve, or beach in the area. Staff members provide family kits with scavenger hunts and other self-guided materials. If possible, a larger group activity will wrap up the outing.

YWCA Evanston/ Northshore Ricky Byrdsong Memorial Race Against Hate

Join other Covenant families in this annual run/ walk to honor the legacy of Ricky Byrdsong who was murdered by a white supremacist in 1999. This annual event draws over 5000 participants each year and supports the YWCA's efforts in the areas of racial justice and violence prevention.
